You’ve probably heard the phrase: “Attitude is everything.” Trust me – when it comes to your business as a real estate investor, having the right mindset is the #1 way to achieve success.
Hey Moguls, Matt Andrews here to tell you that an optimistic, driven mindset is the foundation for bringing your real estate investing goals to fruition. When you have a positive, go-getter attitude, you’ll notice that you have the energy and the inclination to make smarter decisions. And smarter decisions lead to more opportunities, better business and ultimately more income.
It’s really a no-brainer (pun intended).
In this lesson, I’m sharing with you the type of mindset that will pave your road to success and how to go about fostering it.
Great Minds Think Alike
So how do you construct the “right” mindset? Well, here are 3 attributes and characteristics to get you moving in the right direction:
#1. Solution-Oriented
When you’re focused on the solution, you will be on the right path. On the other hand, when you think only about the predicament and how awful it is, you’re not moving forward.
So, let me suggest a technique… when you’re faced with a challenge, imagine the most disastrous possible outcome of a situation. In most cases, you’ll figure out that it’s actually not so terrible, and you’ll be able to move forward.
#2. Decisive
This one is simple – scrutinize the problem, consider the best possible resolution and then act on it. It’s not rocket science! Really, it’s all about discovering something that works for you and implementing it. Enough said.
#3. Action-Oriented
This goes hand-in-hand with decisiveness, and it’s probably the most indispensible part of having the right mindset. It’s mind-blowing how action cures fear! When you take that step out, your apprehension will fade away.
If you take on these three qualities, you’ll cultivate a “bring it on” mindset that will help you tackle any obstacles that come your way. And that’s what it takes to build a lucrative business in real estate investing. To be frank, all the education and training in the world won’t help your business flourish if you don’t have the right outlook.
Choose Your Cohorts Wisely
Part of what goes into developing the right mindset is surrounding yourself with positive, smart people.
Think about this: You are the “average” of the five people that you hang out with most. What do I mean by that? I’m saying that we tend to become like the people we are associated with.
Now, this may scare some of you. And maybe it should…
If you hang out with people who have no motivation and don’t want to improve themselves, you’ll exhibit those traits yourself. On the other hand, if you associate with people who are motivated and who push themselves to become better, this will help you improve yourself.
As Albert Einstein said:
“Creativity is contagious; pass it on.”
This can apply not only to creativity but also to motivation, positivity and innovation – all traits that you can pick up from the people you’re around. And Einstein probably knew what he was talking about because – um, let’s face it – he was frickin’ Einstein.
So, when you’re deciding who to hang out with – whether personally or professionally – ask yourself 3 questions about the person in consideration:
-
Are they engaged in the pursuit of worthwhile goals? In other words, are they accomplishing something of significance? Something that you value too?
-
Can you learn from this person? Consider if they have traits that you want to pick up.
-
Is this a long-term reciprocal relationship? Be realistic about whether or not you can help this person learn, too.
If the answer to all three of these questions is ‘yes,’ you may have found a great partner – in life, business or whatever it may be.
Remember, we’re all different people with different interests and pursuits. But if you can find someone who inspires you, that is a relationship worth pursuing.
Parting Words of Wisdom
When you’re building the right mindset, you never want to be the smartest person in the room. You should always surround yourself with people who can teach you and help you grow.
All of this is to say: If you have the right mindset (which is impacted heavily by the people you hang around), your real estate investing business will explode!
So, work on being more solutions-oriented, decisive and action-oriented – and consider who is surrounding you. If you work on these aspects of your life, you’ll find that success in a professional capacity will easily follow.
