Business cards are dead.
Everybody’s got one. And unless yours is really cool or funky, it’s likely going to end up in File 13 (trash), lost under a stack of old bills, or in between couch cushions.
Plus… BORING…
Now that nearly everyone’s got a smartphone (and EVERYONE’S got an email – even my 90 year old granny), consider using a video business card (vCard) by EyeJot to add a little “wowee” or sex appeal to the boring old biz card.
Not familiar with EyeJot? Take a moment to check-out our previous lesson about this cool little service.
Here’s How the vCard Works, In A Nutshell
At the most basic level, EyeJot’s new vCard app allows you to create and send video business cards through email or text messages. Sending your information through video not only gets people’s attention, it also leaves a lasting impression.
Here’s an odd little video created by the vCard folks. It’s somewhat Stepford Wife-ish, but it shows you what the software is all about…
What You Need to Do
Once you download the app ($0.99 from Apple’s App Store and coming soon to Android), follow these simple steps to create and send your personalized video:
-
Hit “Edit” to create your video and personal greeting
-
Press the thumbnail of your video once it’s created and then hit “Upload” to save it on EyeJot’s server
-
Go to other panels to edit your name, title, company information, address – and even links to your social networks
-
Hit “Save” to complete the process
-
When you’re ready to send your sexy new vCard, simply hit “Send” and then type the lucky recipient’s email address or phone number
But Wait, There’s More!
As if the vCard’s video capabilities were not impressive enough, it can also add reminders into your calendar to follow-up with your new contacts, and it even features a link to a Google map of where your contact was made. (Because you know you’re going to forget – especially if you met your new contact at one of those “working” happy hours).
And talk about annoying paper. Say adios to annoying name badges with this app, because when rotated upside down, your phone can also serve as a virtual name badge. Pretty cool eh?
The Bottom Line
So at your next networking meeting or “working” happy hour (wink, wink), you can share your contact information with just a few simple strokes on your smart phone. Stop searching through that mysterious abyss you call a “briefcase” or “purse”, and for the Pete’s sake, throw away that cheesy, engraved business card holder. (Extra credit if you know who Pete is.)
Why share your information on a boring piece of paper when can make a real impression on buyers, sellers, attorneys, and other professionals with a personal video?
It’s time to toss the ole’ cards in the recycle bin and start making that lasting impression you’ve been trying to do all along.
