In the not-too-distant past, there were the door-to-door salesmen. There are probably some still today. They would carry their vacuum cleaners or their encyclopedias around in their car... then during the right time of the day, they would start knocking on doors to see if people would want to purchase their products.
Oh, by the way, if you’re too young to know what an encyclopedia is, Google it.
The reason there were so many of these salesmen was because it worked. Selling in-person works really well compared to mailing letters, emails or phone calls. You’ve probably even heard the technique of knocking on doors of foreclosures to talk directly to motivated sellers.
People just like to buy from people they know and see. Trouble is, going door-to-door takes a lot of time. You may talk to someone for several hours and still not have a chance to purchase the property.
That’s why many people rely on the internet for their marketing. They will give up that personalized attention and ‘make it up in volume.’ With the internet, you can market to thousands or tens of thousands of people. All while sitting at your PC in your underwear. (Yep, I said it. You know it’s true.)
Combine Door-To-Door with Point and Click
Wouldn’t it be great to use both techniques? Be able to market to thousands, but still have some sort of face-to-face interaction.
Now you can by putting video in your email. We introduced the idea to you in previous tech lessons (here and here) a while back. Those lessons talk about Eyejot, which is a great way to send a quick video from your webcam.
Today we want to show you the next level of video email. Head on over to Jive Systems and take a look at the website. The folks at Jive Systems are totally geared to helping you sell stuff through video emails.
Jive Systems focuses on what sales people really want, like:
-
Sending a video email to one person or a group of people.
-
Embedding a video in their emails.
-
Embedding a video in their website or blog.
-
Displaying a Call to Action message at the end of their video.
-
Seeing exactly when each person watched the video
The folks at Jive Systems believe today there is a break between getting an initial phone call from someone who is interested, and the following up. People use email or text much more than face-to-face interaction as a follow up... and that break can cost you sales.
Imagine a phone call you receive from a motivated seller... you talk to them about their house, their situation and the usual stuff to qualify them as a good lead. But chances are they are on a bunch of other people’s mailing lists as well.
If you don’t rush right over to see it (which may be impossible if you are virtually wholesaling in another market), the seller might be ‘dialing for dollars’ with other wholesalers or flippers.
This is the break Jive Systems builds its business around. You can send an email follow up after your phone call. But that’s what everyone does. And it is not very personal. Wouldn’t it be great instead to send a personalized video you made right after the initial phone call?
Maybe you can say something in the video based on a topic from your phone conversation? That way, the motivated seller knows you just made the video, instead of sending them some canned response that goes to everyone else.
That doesn’t mean you can’t make good, general videos and put them on your website, blog or as a link for others to learn about you. All your videos can also end with a call to action (CTA) to encourage the motivated seller to take the next step.

That doesn’t mean you can’t stay with Jive Systems and keep on learning new sales techniques. For just $25/month, you can gain access to great content that has increased conversions for many other sales people.
In order to maximize the effectiveness of the videos you produce, you should also invest in some decent video and audio equipment. For a couple hundred bucks, you can make a HUGE difference in the quality of the videos.
You can see a lot of the differences between their recommendations and a standard webcam here. You can do so much better than a webcam or smart phone as your recording device. Jive Systems walks you through which systems to buy for a reasonable price.

Stand Out from the Crowd – There’s a lot of competition for good deals. Do things that win the trust of the seller quicker, and you will score.
Test Different Marketing – Try out video in your email. Measure the results. If it doesn’t work, try something else.
Get in Front of Buyers and Sellers – Motivated sellers want to meet you and see if you are someone they can trust. Try as much as you can to get in front of them.
