7 Clues for Success - Part I

As a real estate investor, you probably wear a lot of hats in your business – or at least you did when you first started out.

Think about it...

You’re a marketer.

An accountant.

A salesperson.

A networker.

A negotiator.

A contractor.

And that’s just scratching the surface…

But even if you excel in all of those areas, your business will never thrive unless you are driven to succeed.

If you don’t have the mindset and motivation needed to be successful, it doesn’t matter how savvy of a negotiator you are... your business will die out.

So, if you really want to make the most of your business and achieve the income you desire, you must continuously pursue success.

“Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result.”
                              ~Oscar Wilde

Hey Moguls, JP Moses here, and today I want to talk to you about how success leaves clues for you to follow. In other words, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to be successful. You just have to be perceptive to the clues available to you.

Think about some of the most successful people you know.

What do they have in common?

Probably a number of characteristics... but some of the most notable are:

  • They think a certain way
  • They take specific actions
  • They model what works

I’m sure you can think of many more traits that you often see in successful people. Motivation. Drive. Persistence. Just to name a few.

womanYou might be surprised when I tell you that some people actually don’t want to know what makes others successful. These people are too caught up in their own lives, and they have no interest in learning how others work toward amazing achievements.

But you might not fall into that camp. Instead, you might be looking for something more in your life. (And I hope you are!)

That’s what this lesson is all about... finding and embracing that extra “edge” that pushes you toward success.

Consider these questions:

  • Do you want to have more passion in your life?
  • Do you want to experience more joy?
  • Do you want to have more freedom?
  • Do you want to be doing what you love... both professionally and personally?
  • Do you want to have more money?

If you answered “yes” to most or all of these, you are a person who is seeking success. The good news is... I have 7 clues to help you reach these achievements.

To give each of these tips the attention they deserve, I want to talk about just the first 3 right now.

Let’s get into it...

Clue #1: Write down your goals

You may have heard of the Harvard study on written goals. If not, let me fill you in...

Essentially, the Harvard MBA class of 1979 was asked if they had written goals. Only 3% claimed that they did. And 10 years later, it was determined that those 3% of graduates were earning 10x as much money as the 97% of graduates who had no written goals.

Now here’s the kicker... this “study” is actually nothing more than an urban myth. It’s not true...

But – before you start throwing rotten tomatoes at me – it’s important to know that there is still some truth in this scenario. In fact, other legit, empirical studies have proven the theory that this fake study suggested.

So we still know, without a shadow of a doubt, that written goals do lead to increased goal achievement. (I’m not joshin’ you on this one).

Clue #2: Exhibit positive behavior internally and externally

Successful people know that “garbage in” means “garbage out.” In other words, what you tell yourself internally will have a huge impact on how you behave externally.

Your goal?

vibesFeed your brain positive information on a daily basis. This will boost your mood and your motivation.

You should also surround yourself with positive people and places. These will sustain your rosy outlook (no seriously, they will), and have a direct impact on your success.

Clue #3: Adhere to the motto: “I will see it when I believe it”

You might need to read that subheading again. It’s not what you think it is.

Successful people don’t use the common phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it,” because that’s counter-productive to a positive attitude.

In other words, successful people understand that – if they believe in something wholeheartedly, it will become reality.

They fully accept that they must take a leap of faith first before seeing the desired outcome... no matter how scary it may seem.

Get it? Got It? Good

Now, these 3 clues are just the beginning of your road to success…

Next time, I’ll reveal the final 4 clues that will help you bring this all together.

Hint: They involve some challenges that might make you squirm in your seat – such as standing out from the crowd and being excited about failure. Whaaaaaat?! Yes, you read that correctly.

Setting the Pace

Which of these clues to success resonated the most with you? If you’ve tried any of these before, let me know the outcome in the comments section below.

Do It To It! Immediate Action Steps

Write down your goals – both short-term and long-term; spare no detail

Change your mindset – when you catch yourself thinking negatively, turn that thought around and focus on how you can eliminate or resolve the problem

Have faith – trust in your own abilities and understand that you cannot achieve a goal unless you believe that you’re capable of doing so
