Don’t Repeat My 2 Biggest Newbie Mistakes

schoolWe all start out as rookies no matter what the profession. And as rookies, we’re going to make mistakes. Those mistakes aren’t (for most of us) easy pills to swallow. Mistakes kill our confidence, crush our spirits and they make us doubt the careers we’ve chosen. Simply put… mistakes suck.

Or do they?

Hey, Cody Sperber here today to challenge you to look at mistakes – my mistakes, specifically – as not only necessary stepping stones to building your business but as good things – no, as great things.

I’ve been in this business long enough to realize that everyone wants to know all about the hiccups I’ve had along the way. And trust me, there are many.

Now, I own those mistakes and even use them as teaching tools. See, I didn’t always realize it back then, but I know now that those mistakes have catapulted me to where I am today. Without them, I wouldn’t have learned some of the most valuable lessons in business… and in life.

So without further ado, here are my big 2…

Don’t Go It Alone

I’ll admit it. I’m hardheaded. I think I can do it all, all by myself. There was a time that I believed hard work alone would get me everywhere and anywhere. And while that’s true, no one – and I mean no one – has achieved groundbreaking success without the help of others.

How foolish was I (are we) to think that we can go it alone? Listen to me now and here me later…

There is nothing wrong with asking for help!

Admitting you need help doesn’t make you less of a man or woman. It doesn’t mean you aren’t cut out to be a real estate investor and it certainly isn’t a reflection of your competency and capabilities.

So get over it! When you need help, ask! Lean on your team, your mentors, your parents, your significant other, your teachers and your fellow investors. It goes without saying (but I’ll say it again anyway) that many heads are better than one.

Don’t let your pride get in the way of reaching your goals faster. The longer you wait to ask for help, the longer it will take you to reach your goals. Remember that.

Master Your Marketing

I eventually learned to speak up when I was drowning, but back in the day, I also struggled with marketing. And by struggled I mean, I basically neglected marketing.

mistakeI was so consumed with building my business systems, pounding the pavement and finding foreclosures that I completely overlooked marketing.

It was until my mentor slapped me upside the head and made me realize that I had to market my business first before the leads could start coming in. I was actually creating more work for myself by not marketing.

Seems elementary, my dear Watson, but I’ll bet big bucks many of you struggle to focus your time on marketing as well. Just know that keeping your head in the marketing will help generate more leads and ultimately more deals.

Keeping It Real, for Real

You guys know me well, so you know that I always try to keep it real with you. So many of you have granted me the privilege of guiding you through your journey toward becoming a real estate investor. And as one of your teachers and mentors, it’s my responsibility to share openly the lessons I’ve learned so that I can help shorten the learning curve for you.

And that’s what today’s lesson was all about. Learn from my mistakes to better yourself and your business.

But wait, there’s more…

With that said, check out this lesson with more valuable takeaways I learned from a past mistake, and this lesson about 5 foreclosure mistakes to avoid.
