If I know one thing, it’s that I couldn’t do what I do on my own. I need wiser, more experienced people around me to help me make good decisions. And yes, even today, after all my successes, I still do.
Hey Moguls, JD Esajian here, and I spoke to a very successful colleague and friend about this idea of having a sphere of influence, and he shared some of his own really powerful tips. They’re so critical, that I’m going to share them with you today.
Ready?
Let’s go...
Not What, But Who
One of the most common questions new investors ask me is: “What do I do first?”
Whether you’re a new investor or a seasoned investor looking to grow your business, I have the same advice: It’s all about who you know.
Who you know can affect where you go and your outcome in life.
Surround yourself with people who have the results that you want. As you spend time with experts, you start to pick things up. Eventually, you’ll start acting and thinking like your role models.
You probably also pick up some good habits, you didn’t even realize you were learning at the time.
Remember: If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.
Where Are the Experts?
What if you don’t personally know anyone who’s been successful in real estate? Or what if you need to find some people who are further along in the business?
Well, successful people get their messages and info out there. They let you know what works. Here are 4 ways you can find, and then connect with the experts.
1. Books
The most successful people around tell others what has worked for them. They write books, do webinars and write posts about what has worked for them. You want to start to think and act like these people. Read what they write and you may find yourself with a new attitude and increased energy to bring to your business.
2. Clubs
Join a REIA in your area. You can choose to go at any interval. Some associations or clubs do have a small membership fee or fee per visit, so do your homework before you go. These in-person events can be really key for networking.
3. Mentor
Find a coaching program…
Coaches and mentors can teach you not just about real estate but also about having the right mindset and focusing on personal development.
4. Mastermind Groups
Mastermind groups are made up of individuals who have common goals and hold one another accountable to achieve those goals. Mastermind members are always looking for new Masterminds to invest in. Groups can meet in person or online. Members benefit from the education, advice and collaboration that helps them grow and challenge one another.
“The richest people in the world look for and build networks. Everyone else looks for work.”
~Robert Kiyosaki
Be Choosy – it’s Worth it
Make sure you’re seeking the right people to learn from.
Remember, growth is an investment that requires time and resources. Look for experts who believe and live that and who are willing to invest their time in you.
And, be ready to work hard on your own growth!
If growth and relationship-building is such hard work, is it worth your time and money?
Absolutely.
Investing time in building relationships with industry experts will help you in ways you didn’t even see coming.
It’s more about who you know because those people will tell you what you need to know. Remember, one personal relationship could return tenfold what you invest.
“Personal relationships are the fertile soil from which all advancement, all success, and all achievement in real life grows.”
~Ben Stein
