Last week we shared a lesson on how to turn your iPhone into a multi-page document scanner using a handy little app called “Jotnot”.
Clear Benefit: Using your iPhone’s camera, you can quickly scan receipts, contracts, etc. into PDFs, and seamlessly send them wherever you want – email, Dropbox, etc. (Yay!)
Obvious Problem: It’s iPhone only. Nothing for Android users yet. (Boo!)
Easy Solution: Droids, use this Document Scanner App instead.
The Skinny: While it’s made by a different company than it’s highly acclaimed iPhone cousin, Document Scanner ultimately does exactly the same thing: allows you to scan documents with your phone camera, convert them into PDF, and send them off lightning fast into an email, Google docs, Evernote, Dropbox, Box.net, Google Cloudprint, etc.
You can select different image qualities, select paper size (US Letter, US Legal, or A4), rotate, and you can even add to an existing set of scanned documents.
So, for instance, you could scan several pages into a docs folder for a specific deal. Later if you wanted, you could scan some more docs (like a contract addendum that gets added later, for example...or a new receipt related to the same rehab project) and add them to the same folder. The folders concept lets you batch docs, work on your documents later, and come back to them as needed.
Show Me: Here’s a quick example of what it can do for you.
It's a small “yellow letter” I scanned using this app on my Droid Razr. I actually intentionally scanned it at an angle, then used the apps perspective correction to tweak it so that it looks right. Then with two quick clicks, I emailed the PDF to myself lickety-split. The whole process took me all of about 90 seconds.
Bottom line: Just like Jotnot for the iPhone, this app is a HUGE time and effort saver for Android users, when it comes to keeping organized on the fly, especially if you have a team of other folks who help you with things like processing leads, bookkeeping, paperless office, etc. and you want a quick, easy way to get your docs scanned and organized to the right place, as quickly and easily as possible.
Update: Another great scanner app for Android we've run across recently is CamScanner...
