Success Is Gained in the Pursuit of Excellence: Create the Habit

2018-09-24-260.jpgAre you pursuing excellence?

Well, I have a feeling that some of you are scratching your head right about now, while others are thinking, ‘heck yeah, I am!’

Hey Moguls, Chris Clothier here, and today I’ve got an awesome follow-up lesson for you…

So, in my previous lesson, I set the stage for the importance of the pursuit of excellence. I defined excellence as I see it; what excellence means for me, my team and my company and why we need to commit to excellence. Make sure you check out that lesson.

I’m continuing with more valuable thoughts today about this critical topic: fixing problems in your business, creating a culture of excellence, how competition plays a role and more.

Let’s get to it…

People and Processes

So, as far as I’m concerned, when you run a successful business, 2 major components are:

  • People
  • Processes/Systems

See, I think that excellence is the elimination of problems that get in the way of delivering your intended result. And you really only have 2 places to go for that...

It's always either a people problem or a process/systems problem.

In my company, we’ve fixed the people problem by setting the expectation that our team members aren’t average—they have to be GREAT to work here and they have to be GREAT to stay here.

Then for the process problem… once amazing people are doing their jobs—if the work that they do doesn't deliver excellence, then we have to change the process because we know it’s not the people.

If you were sitting in one of our company’s operational meetings or an executive meeting, you would see that that's what we spend the majority of our time talking about… the two main things that you have to deal with to deliver excellence and become the best.

Culture of Excellence

excellenceAnother important aspect of excellence that we often talk about in my company is being competitive.

It’s one of the basic foundations of creating a culture of excellence—and here’s why this is so crucial…

When you create that culture in your business or company, your customers and clients are going to recognize it and they're going to follow you.

And, it becomes a lot easier to grow your business at a very high level when you, as a business owner, and your team buy into the thought that we have to create a culture of excellence in everything we do every single day.

So we create appropriate competition within our team too—to pursue the habits of becoming excellent.

See, we value competition and we value what each team member, including leadership, brings to the table for competition because we know that's what ultimately will push all of us to be far ahead of our external competition—in a different league altogether.

It's all about the pursuit of perfection, which will create excellence.

And when you can do that, you have a business model that's second to none.

If you can create excellence at the:

  • vendor level
  • resident level
  • staff and employee level
  • client level

… you’re going to have a truly successful business.

Create the Habit

Remember, being lazy is a habit. Being average is a habit. Being excellent is a habit…

habitAnd it's about mentally training yourself to be excellent every single day. Success is not guaranteed. You're going to have to earn it every single day, day in and day out, to the highest level to have any shot at being successful.

If you pursue excellence and practice it daily in your business, from the tiniest thing to the biggest thing, you will be successful and you'll have an opportunity to do amazing things.

You can’t just talk about it... you have to live it, be it, do it. And your team does too. In all parts of your business.

Every. Single. Day.

Make pursuing excellence a habit. Create a culture of excellence. And you’ll be good to go.
