You Should Just Stop Trying. Seriously.

Hey Moguls, Preston Ely here…

“Most people ‘try’ to get what they want. The problem is every time you try, you are setting yourself up for failure. In reality you can’t try to do anything. You either DO it or you DON’T. The whole world is trying and most are failing.”
                                           ~Robert Anthony, Self-Help Guru Extraordinaire

By now you are aware that I teach people to do what I do – flip houses en masse. I also partner with them for their first year. We work together on all their deals ensuring them a fast start without fear of mistakes.

Well, I have two types of students:

1. Those who sign up and immediately begin sending leads over;

and

2. Those who sign up and immediately begin sending graphs, charts and questions over.

I can barely spot the United States on a map*, let alone read a graph or a chart. You know what I can do though? Make a lot of money and help a lot of people. And beat you up.

Yes, that’s a black eye. You should see the *other* guy. He was perfectly unharmed. It’s amazing.

Which is more important?

Beating you up. Exactly.

In all truth, I can actually spot the U.S. on a map. But not on a globe. And I can’t spot Canada on anything (even the real earth), but that’s strictly out of principle. I don’t believe in Canada. Or it’s bacon.

Moving on…

So some students send leads. Some send graphs.

Some send yellow and red giraffes.
Some make money.

Some like honey.
Honey tastes yummy.
In my tummy.

I actually wrote the first line of that with the intent of transitioning into something serious again, but the moment I typed “graphs” I immediately saw a Dr. Seuss rhyme in my head with “giraffes” in it. The rest is history.

Some do. Some try.

Why?

(I swear I didn’t rhyme that on purpose – stop it you compulsive rhyming wizard, you!)

Because some are scared, and some are confident.
Some are impaired, and some are diligent. (“OMG”)
Some believe they will succeed, (“Please…no more. They’ll leave the page and run far far away.”)
Come conceive they have no need (“this is not me typing, people – “he” has taken over!”) **

CatSome people are results oriented (they demand cash NOW), and some are “work” oriented (so long as they worked all day, they are satisfied).

Some people work expecting immediate profit, and some work because they simply know they are supposed to be working (they aren’t “expecting” ANYthing – they are merely “hoping”).

The former’s biggest need in life is a place to store all their cash. The latter’s greatest need in life is to get a 9-5 job where someone will hold their hand, take care of them, and show them the basket for the TPS reports (Office Space – go rent the movie).

“What are you waiting for? You’re faster than this. Don’t think you are, know you are. Come on. Stop trying to hit me and hit me.”

Trying Doesn’t Work

There is a reason why “trying” never works…

Because “trying” implies a lack of the one single ingredient that is essential for all success – belief. If you are simply “trying” then you obviously don’t have much faith in your ability to do the dang thing. Increase your faith, or go do something else. Without faith, you are wasting your time.

You see, if you believe you are going to succeed, then there is nothing to “try.” There is simply something to “do.” You’ve already seen the outcome in your head – you win. All there is left to do is to do it.

tryNO professional athlete goes into the arena “trying” to do ANYthing. They have already played that entire game out in their heads a hundred times before they even start the competition. They are simply going in with the intention of imposing their will on their opponent.

Like mine did on my eye, remember? He imposed his will on my eyeball. I think I wasn’t believing right at that moment, if I remember correctly.

Bottom line, there are those who DO and they are those who DON’T. And the only difference between the two is 100% totally and completely in their heads.

Which one are you?

Which one would you like to be?

“Neo, sooner or later you’re going to realize just as I did that there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path… I’m trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You’re the one that has to walk through it.”
                                                    ~Morpheus, The Matrix

Make it happen.
