Hey Moguls, Alex Pardo here…
Have you ever written out what it is you actually do on a daily basis?
Have you ever thought about measuring your level of productivity?
How would you know if you had a productive day or not? Would it be based on how many items you crossed off your to-do list? Or how many contracts you sent? Number of bandit signs that were put out? How much money you made?
Do you ever feel like you work insane hours, and yet don’t seem to produce the results that “other investors” produce in what appears to be half the time?
If you are like most people, chances are you have never really asked yourself those questions, much less taken the time to think about and write down the answers.
So in this lesson, I’m going to share with you how you can get more done, in less time, and produce results.
Winner winner, chicken dinner
Let’s face it, winners live in a results-oriented world.
To a successful person, it’s not about how many things they can ‘get done’ in the shortest amount of time, but more about how laser focused they can be on a specific (high priority) task that they know will produce the results they want.
Today’s society praises the multitaskers…
Somehow, if you are able to read email while eating a sandwich, in between the 14 text messages, 6 Skype messages you respond to, and scroll through Facebook/Instagram, all within 4 minutes, you are considered by some to be efficient.
To these people efficiency is measured by how many things you can get done in the least amount of time.
Doesn’t matter if the things you are doing accomplish nothing or move you toward your goals. Just as long as you feel busy.
Do you feel busy, but lack results?
If you do, or have ever felt that way, keep reading. I’m about to propose a solution:
1) Document everything you do on a daily basis, for one straight week (in 15-30 minute intervals).
Like so:
6 am: Get up, go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, etc.
6:15 am: Eat breakfast.
6:20 am: Check email while eating breakfast (and attempt to have a conversation w/ a family member).
6:30 am: …
You get the picture.
Unfortunately, this is how most people begin their day. (For awesome tips about starting your day off right, check out one of my previous lessons “How I Flat-Out CRUSH Each Day (In the Morning)”)
This exercise will open your eyes by mid-week. It will show you where you tend to waste time, and the pitfalls that take away from your productivity. It will also reveal why you may be lacking the results you desire.
It could be social media, ESPN, the neighbor’s cat trying to Spider-man up your wall, whatever!
Document everything for 1 week. I challenge you. Do it.
2) Running a Sprint is much better than running a Marathon!
Do you go, go, go and then feel like your energy levels have been zapped?
That’s because you are too busy “doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it” (to quote Michael Gerber).
Instead, I encourage you to work in intervals. Here is the formula that works for me:
Focus on one important, high-priority, revenue-generating task for 1 hour! Focus on this task, and nothing else! Log off from anything you think will tempt you…
The goal here is to be laser-focused for 1 hour. Put yourself on a timer, and once the hour is up, take a 15-minute break, and do something totally unrelated.
Maybe a walk, read a book, whatever! Make it something that will help you (like a mini-workout or something).
When the 15 minutes are up, get back to work on that 1 Thing for the next hour.
Put yourself on a timer so you don’t go over or under the time allotted. Now when you finish that 2nd hour, take a half-hour break (and do something unrelated).
The idea here is to give your mind a break, and in the process, you will actually accomplish more, in less time.
3) Recognize that your productivity is now measured by RESULTS, and not by any other standard!
…And those results are based on your goals. What is it you are looking to accomplish?
Track everything, and you can always make adjustments along the way.
Eventually you will figure out what works best for you, and how to get the most out of your day.
Now, go take action.
Shift your mindset and use this powerful and productive approach.
Write down everything you do in 15-30 minute intervals.
Time yourself and “sprint-work” in intervals: 1 hour on, 15 minutes off, 1 hour on, 30 minutes off, etc.
Track your actual, measurable results. Getting through your to-do list is not necessarily being productive. It can be if the things on your list are high priority and are stepping stones to accomplish your goals.
Alex Pardo
has been investing in real estate for 9 years. Before he started working on his real estate investing business, he worked for GE Consumer Finance in their Financial Management Program. He quickly realized that staring at Microsoft Excel for 14 hours a day was the fast lane to the dreaded rat race, so he completed the 2-year program, and decided to backpack around Europe and Africa for 3 months, before diving into Real Estate full-time. Two months later, he closed his first deal and made $44,000. Almost as much as he made in 1 year at General Electric, and needless to say he hasn’t looked back. Fast forward to today, he has started several businesses and has learned as much from his failures as he has from his successes. To date his company has closed over 250 real estate transactions and has helped countless homeowners and investors in the process.
