Inner Game

Walk Away from the 97%

redAn apple a day…

You know the rest. As the saying goes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

But who knew that an apple a day could also be the start of something so much bigger, something much more profound that could forever change your future?

Who is Jim Rohn?

An apple a day. That’s where it all starts, according to one of America’s foremost business (and life) philosophers.

Jim Rohn has been sharing his success philosophies for almost 50 years, with more than 6,000 captive audiences and over five million people worldwide. Jim was the 1985 recipient of the coveted CPAE Award for excellence in speaking as well as the 2004 recipient of the Masters of Influence Award from the National Speakers Association.

Personally, Jim’s words and wisdom have inspired me to stop and consider some challenging questions about my own life, my own relationships, and my own business.

And by asking those questions, looking into the mirror, challenging ourselves to push for more, and forgiving our mistakes, we all can grow as people and as professionals.

That, my friends, is why I’m sharing Jim’s wisdom with you today on this lovely Mindset Monday.

Enjoy.

“The few who do are the envy of those who only watch.” – Jim Rohn

percentBe the 3%

Three percent.  It’s such a small percentage.

That’s it.  Only 3%.

And what does it stand for? According to Jim, only 3% of the world’s population actually takes time to change their mindsets, to explore new philosophies, to (in general) do things differently, in order to get better results from their lives.

The rest of the population (and probably most of us) – that 97% – simply drift through life, taking things as they come, never really learning from the past or taking control of the present to give direction to the future.

Welcome to your next great challenge:  Be that 3%!  Start making changes today to help mold a better future tomorrow and a stronger, more profitable business environment.

So where do you begin? Consider the below advice a snapshot – mere highlights from Jim Rohn’s library of business philosophies and principles. Read them, take them to heart, and apply them to your own life. Put them to the test, and see how your life changes – for the better – and then tune-into today’s video lesson for a conclusive punch in the soul from Mr. Rohn himself.

Quite Possibly the Most Awesome Assignment Ever

  1. signReview your performance. Ask yourself if you’re doing enough to get ahead? Always do more than you get paid to do to make an investment in your future.
  2. Face your fears. The only way to get past them is to tackle them head on.
  3. Exercise your will power to change direction. If you’re not getting the results you want, change things up. Take baby steps are giant leaps; just break the cycle, and stop repeating the same unsuccessful or unsatisfying patterns.
  4. Admit your mistakes. Admit them to others and to yourself. “I’m sorry” might be the most profound two words in the world.
  5. Refine your goals. Reach for higher goals, and challenge yourself outside of your comfort zone.
  6. Believe in yourself above all else. There is nothing you can’t do.
  7. Ask for wisdom. Wisdom creates answers and the faith to believe things are possible and challenges can be overcome.
  8. Conserve your time. Don’t think in terms of years but in terms of time. If you see your children once a year, and you’re 50 years old you will probably only get to see them 20-30 more times. Think about that. You only have so many times to do things, not so many years.
  9. Invest your profits. Profits are better than wages, because they make you a fortune not just a living. You can earn profits while you earn a living.
  10. Protect your family. Always, as best you can. Protect them from hidden dangers and threats.
  11. Live with intensity. Spice it up, turn life up a notch. Invest more of you in whatever you do. Be stronger, be braver, be wiser, and take more risks. Put more heart and soul into everything you do.
  12. Find your place. Find the best place for yourself at work, the place where you can work with your gifts, hone your talents, and showcase the best of yourself. Don’t do less at a dead end job. Do more! That’s the way out and onto something bigger and better!
  13. Demand integrity from yourself. You can’t get it from someone else, so set the example of integrity, and watch how people with it will follow you.
  14. Welcome the disciplines. They create reality, they build bridges and cities, and they produce abundance.
  15. Fight for what’s right. Keep the faith always, and keep fighting the good fight.

jimJim Rohn Summed-Up

Jim’s words are such amazing reminders that life is here right now happening all around us, and we are only ones with the power to control our lives, our decisions, and our destinies.

What I’ve learned from Jim’s words of wisdom – and what I hope you will also learn – is to grow wiser from successes and failures alike, to be disciplined, and to be open to learning, listening, loving and (above all) changing.

Commit to these principles; commit to change. I think that’s the key. Change isn’t always easy, as we all well know.  But sometimes (much like that apple) it’s just what the doctor ordered.

“Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” – Jim Rohn
