How to Create Effective Video Ads Using Your Phone

premiereThere is a tight competition for snagging great real estate deals. You’re most likely busting your butt just to stay on top of the competition. Does this sound like you?

Video marketing is one of the most powerful marketing tools at your disposal. One study showed that video marketers get about 66% more leads every year.  SmallBizTrends also sees the potential of video marketing. They estimate that by 2019, global consumer Internet video traffic will take up 80% of all consumer Internet traffic.

Just like any other form of advertising, the quality of the ads will make a big difference in results. Does that mean you need a large production budget and Steven Spielberg-like Directing skill? Not really... these days the tools for video marketing make it much easier to craft high-quality videos that sell. You can still concentrate on running your real estate business and either make videos yourself or hire them out inexpensively.

It’s really quick and easy to shoot a video these days. You can say goodbye to fancy equipment and take an effective video using your smartphone. If you have a digital camera, by all means, use it. Sometimes though, you want to capture a moment like a testimonial and your regular camera is with your spouse.

But the question is – once you take the video, how can you edit it to catch your audience’s attention?

We think we may have found a good editing tool.

Small-Screen Editing, Big-Screen Potential

iphone-and-ipadIf you’re looking for a fuss-free, not-too-fancy, and straightforward video editing tool, then you might want to check out Adobe Premiere Clip. The Adobe Premiere Clip works on both iOS and Android phones.

The reason why it’s worth a try is that the app lets you edit videos directly from your smartphone. Here’s how to get started:

The App works with videos located anywhere, such as:

  • Your phone
  • Lightroom
  • Cloud
  • Dropbox
  • Google Drive
  • One Drive
  • Your tablet,
  • Etc.

Adobe Premiere Clip will create a video for you – complete with cuts and a soundtrack. Or you can also manually edit your video.

  • The ability to do some editing of background music to your videos on an automatic loop
  • Multiple color grading choices and style, built into the app
  • The ability to add bumpers to your videos
  • Fade in from black and fade out to black
  • One-click direct publishing to YouTube and Facebook

Getting Started

The Adobe Premiere Clip is a free app per se; however, you need to create an Adobe account if you haven’t yet. They do have a free account option.

Another thing about the Premiere Clip is that it doesn’t take up much space compared to iMovie’s 600MB. If you have 91MB to spare, then you can certainly download it. The app can also run on iOS 8.1 or later. Pretty neat, eh?

Automatic and Freeform

Adobe Premiere Clip has two editing options: Automatic and Freeform. As mentioned, the Automatic option generates a video for you. It cuts your videos and only puts in the interesting parts.

automateOn the other hand, Freeform is the complete opposite. It lets you have full control over your video. It lets you:

  • Trim video clips
  • Adjust the brightness
  • Highlights
  • Shadows, and
  • Exposure

If you’ve chosen the Automatic mode to edit your project and then change your mind, you can switch videos to Freeform.

One of the downsides that Premiere Clip users find a bit annoying is the inability to rotate the video and choose transitions.

Sharing Video Projects

Similar to many different editing tools, Premiere Clip has its own sharing community. When you’re done editing your video, you can save it directly to your phone, or share it on your social media pages, and to Dropbox.

You can also send it to Premiere Pro, save it to Creative Cloud – Adobe’s version of Dropbox or iCloud, or click on Publish and Share.

Adobe Premiere Clip is best for users who just want to edit a video on the fly but still want proper results. If you want a more sophisticated user experience, then the best way to use Adobe Premiere Clip is to pair it with the Premiere Pro. You can edit your video on Premiere Clip and then continue editing it on Premiere Pro to access more features.

To experienced video editors, Premiere Clip doesn’t have a lot of templates and transitions to choose from.  Have you used other video editors? What was your experience? Please share with us in the comments below.

Do It To It! Immediate Action Steps

Mind the music. Do you like watching videos without any music? Music can really make a video more enjoyable to the viewer. Especially if you’re using drone footage and need to cancel the noise.

Don’t skip on publication strategy. Don’t just record a video, then put it out on the open, and expect it to go viral the next day. You need to spread the message.

Experiment! Most professional videographers will tell you their first videos sucked. Keep trying things until you find a winning combination.
